"The two-piece ring°wall consists of a LED display and a multitouch information-wall and impresses by its size: a total surface of 425 square meters, which equals more than 6000 computer displays, is the biggest of its kind. An interactive World emerges out of 34 million pixels generated by 15 high definition projectors and is supported by 30 directional speakers.

Multitouch sensors basing on laser technology, convert the usage of the natural user interface into an experience. By direct touching, more than 80 users can simultaneously get informed about news and activities around the ringworld."

Burn David Nutt

Burn David Nutt
Science Vs morals (and stupidity)

When people look at the finger which is pointing at the moon...
Professor David Nutt has not only been sacked but is facing the stakes because of his scientific declaration ...

Remember: June 22 1633, the Italian scientist Galileo Galilei, then aged 70, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Congregation of the Holy Office, the judicial arm of the Inquisition. He was forced to recant the heliocentric theory of Copernicus, whose work has been put to the index 15 years earlier. But Urban VII, who had originally supported Galileo, transmutes the sentence under house arrest. Having renounced his belief in science and especially the fact that the earth turns on itself, Galileo would have whispered "And yet it moves". However it is likely that this phrase is a myth. The Church rehabilitated in 1992.

This hasn't much to do with 3D per se but is really scary.

Large Hadron Collider
"The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator, intended to collide opposing particle beams of either protons at an energy of 7 TeV per particle or lead nuclei at an energy of 574 TeV per nucleus. It is expected that it will address the most fundamental questions of physics, which seem to block further progress in understanding the deepest laws of nature. The LHC lies in a tunnel 27 kilometres (17 mi) in circumference, as much as 175 metres (570 ft) beneath the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva, Switzerland. "With its successful test run at the end of 2009, the Large Hadron Collider near Geneva, Switzerland, seized the world record for the highest-energy particle collisions created by mankind. We can now reflect on the next questions: What will it discover, and why should we care?"

Symphony of Science

Symphony of Science - 'We Are All Connected' (ft. Sagan, Feynman, deGrasse Tyson & Bill Nye)

"We Are All Connected" was made from sampling Carl Sagan's Cosmos, The History Channel's Universe series, Richard Feynman's 1983 interviews, Neil deGrasse Tyson's cosmic sermon, and Bill Nye's Eyes of Nye Series, plus added visuals from The Elegant Universe (NOVA), Stephen Hawking's Universe, Cosmos, the Powers of 10, and more. It is a tribute to great minds of science, intended to spread scientific knowledge and philosophy through the medium of music." by melodysheep

Magic fluid control

Chair for System Simulation (Department of Computer Science 10) by Nils Thuerey

Magic Fluid Control
N. Thuerey, R. Keiser, M. Pauly, U. Ruede

"The movie consists of three clips to demonstrate the possibilities of controlled water simulations:
1. A magician pulls out water from a basin which forms a teapot by moving his hand upwards from the basin.
2. Water flows magically upwards a stair where it forms a human figure. This is achieved by using control particles from a reversed water simulation and from an invisible model.
3. The magician moves a duck out of water from one basin to another and vice versa. Finally, he pulls out two ducks from both basins which end up in a short "fight"... Read More

Digital Magics

Digital Magics

Since Meliès who virtually invented all special effects'  techniques used in analogic films, there is a long history flagged by a fistful of geniuses such as Ray Harryhausen.

Until digital graphics were born...

Today the very fine combinaison of those different techniques, optical, physical and digital, brings new highlights to the movie industry, giving to the most unprobable forms of life, a truthlike existence.

And we love it!

Digital Domain is masterising those techniques.

Please check out their awesome portfolio, not forgetting that, behind what you see, amazingly talented "Dei ex machina" scrap their brains for your sheer enjoyment...

Digital Flock of 4000

Digital Flock of 4000

InstinctTech DogFighter CudaDemo

"The demo shows 4096 bot planes handled solely on a single GPU parallel to game rendering. The bot planes use steering behaviours for flocking, navigation and obstacle avoidance. The planes are fully lit and rendered (with shadows). The demo runs with interactive frame rate on main stream CUDA enabled graphics cards. In comparison the same simulation without utilizing CUDA achieved a similar frame rate on a decent machine with only 512 planes in our tests. The steering computation for 512 planes requires about 260.000 neighbour queries while for 4096 planes this grows to a whopping 16 Million queries. The algorithm can be easily parallelized, explaining the advantage of technologies like CUDA for this kind of problem. Even if there is a potential to optimize the algorithm for CPU the clear benefit for us is a heavily reduced development time." by DarkWaterDev
